The half-title reads 'Monumens De Nismes.' With a list of subscribers including several Englishmen. Although Clérisseau promised a second part, lack of funds evidently prevented its appearing: see Thomas J. McCormick, Charles-Louis Clérisseau and the genesis of Neo-Classicism (New York: Architectural History Foundation, 1990), pp. 136, 260 n.22. The plates were engraved under Clérisseau's supervision by his pupil, Claude René Gabriel Poulleau (b. 1749). BAL Early printed books, no. 660.

Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting pl. XXV. Inscribed in ink on the title-page John Soane 1780.

Binding C19th half calf, blind roll-tooled borders, gilt-ruled spine direct-lettered in gilt 'Monumens De Nismes', purple moiré cloth boards.
