A Paris (Place), chez Jean-Baptiste Coignard, imprimeur ordinaire du Roy & de l'Académie Françoise,, 1714.
[16], 290, [2] p., X fold. pl. ; 25.5 cm. (4°)

First published in 1703. This is the second edition, which includes Cordemoy's replies to A.-F. Frézier's critical reviews of his work published in the Mémoires de Trévoux between 1709 and 1712, and in which Cordemoy's novel ideas concerning simplicity and structural honesty and efficiency in architecture are more explicit. Cordemoy's Nouveau traité owed much to Claude Perrault's theory of architecture and was the basis for Laugier's better-known and more controversial Essai sur l'architecture published in 1753 (q.v.). It was also of considerable interest to Soane, who made a manuscript translation of it sometime after 1801 (Soane Case 165).
