Includes a list of subscribers. The 'Essays On Painting' were first published in the Philosophical Magazine, 1801-2. The 'Advertisement By The Editor' is signed E.W. Brayley, who put together this collection to benefit Edward Dayes's widow after his suicide in 1804. It was printed in quarto and octavo formats (see copy notes below). A new edition of 'An Excursion Through The Principal Parts Of Derbyshire And Yorkshire' was published separately in 1825 as A picturesque tour through ... Derbyshire and Yorkshire (q.v.). Copy Notes Copy 1: Quarto copy.
Copy 2: 23.4 cm. (8°). Inscribed in pencil on front free-endpaper neat plates =14s= and with Thomas Boone's cypher xkf on the rear free-endpaper.

Binding Copy 1: C19th full diced calf, gilt roll-tool borders, gilt-ruled spine, black spine-label. Probably the copy bound by Peter Low for 17s., 25 March 1807. (Spiers Box). If so, the bill for a copy bound by Edwin Hutchinson for 5s. 4d., 7 May 1829 may indicate a rebinding. (Archive 7/10/18).
Copy 2: C19th full diced russia, gilt double-ruled borders, roll-tool panels with vase and floral ornaments, gilt-tooled spine, marbled edges and endpapers, navy blue silk bookmark.
