Delagardette's Leçons élémentaires des ombres has separate title-page, pagination and register, and may have been available separately as well as being issued with Vignola as here. The plates to part 1 are numbered top left 1--68, and those to part 2, following the unnumbered added engraved title-plate, are numbered 1--25. Additionally all the plates to both parts are numbered consecutively bottom right 1--94. Most of plates 5--43 in part 1, showing the orders of architecture according to Vignola are reworked reprints of the Chéreau plates from the 1747 edition; the remainder are versions by Delagardette of Vignola's original plates. The letterpress (including blank pages) is in double-line woodcut borders. BAL, Early printed books, no. 3474; Fowler 383.

Copy Notes A bill from the bookseller Thomas Boone for an unspecified quarto edition of 'Architecture de Vignole' bought for 5s. on 4 February 1807 (Spiers Box) may refer to the present volume or to another book no longer in Soane's library, the provenance for the two other French editions of Vignola (qq.v.) being separately established.
