Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting the frontispiece portrait of Milton. Attached to front free-endpaper a folded leaf inscribed in ink in which The writer of these lines says that the Commentary ... is a Work of much Labour and occasionally discovers considerable knowledge in Matters of History, Philology &c But there is not any Evidence of Taste or Genius in its Formation. It ought nevertheless to be kept in Libraries as a Book which may sometimes be useful for Reference .... Bookseller's code in ink on front pastedown.
