The letter concerns a rumour that the author's statement that painters "were often subject to jealousy, and that mediocrity was unknown in painting", made in the second edition of his Descriptive catalogue ... of some pictures, 1802 (1st ed., 1801, q.v.; 3rd ed., 1802, q.v.), gave offence to members of the Academy. Final erratum leaf.
