Most of the plates were drawn by John Peter Gandy, afterwards Deering (1787--1850), Sir William Gell (1777--1836), and Francis Octavius Bedford (1794--1838) who went to Greece and Asia Minor in 1811--13. Francis Octavius Bedford may be the same as Francis Bedford who was employed as a clerk by Soane from 1797 to 1798. Other plates were drawn by James Walter, a minor architect (fl. 1825--1851). Binding C19th russia calf, blind roll-tool palmette and anthemion borders framing gilt roll-tool Greek key borders, blind and gilt roll-tooled, gilt-lettered spine, marbled edges.
