First edition, Venice, 1557. Translated by W. Brown from the edition in Italian and French published in Florence, 1735 with title Dialogo della pittura di M. Lodovico Dolce, intitolato l'Aretino, with a preface on the state of the arts in England and editorial notes to the text. The translator's name is subscribed in MS. to the dedication in the BL copy. ESTC n29694.

Copy Notes Bought from Thomas Boone for 2s. on 21 June 1815. (Spiers Box).Half-title verso inscribed in pencil -2s-.

Binding Original blue paper wrappers, paper spine-label lettered in ink 'A Dialogue/ on/ Painting./ Lodovico Dolce.'.
