On title-page verso: 'Whatever profits may arise from the sale of this publication will be appropriated to the Funds of the Mission.'
Copy Notes Unopened. Inscribed in ink on title-page Earnestly, but respectfully requested to/ read this address/ JP. Inscribed on final page, as an addition to the names of members of the Corresponding Committee receiving subscriptions, & Mrs Pirie/ Camberwell. Bound with a 4 page printed leaflet describing the Church of Scotland's India Mission and canvassing subscriptions to it, inscribed in ink on the final page Also / Mrs Pirie, Windmill Place, Camberwell/ who is endeavouring to raise five hundred/ pounds in aid of this cause./ 26th March 1836, and a letter to Soane from Mrs. Jean Pirie dated 26 March [1836] presenting this material and requesting his support. Mrs Pirie was wife of Alderman John Pirie (1781--1851) of Berwick and Camberwell, who became Lord Mayor in 1844. He was a member of the London Emigration Committee and became President of St Thomas's Hospital in 1842.
