First published in 1658 (q.v.). A prospectus announcing the publication of part I was published on 1 April 1814. Printer's statement on verso of half-title: Moyes, printer, London. In his preface Ellis states that 'The whole of Hollar's Plates to the First Edition, have been re-engraved with care and fidelity for the present Work'. The engraver was William Finden and the plates are noted as "extraordinary examples of facsimile work". See B. Adams, London illustrated 1604--1851 (London 1983), no. 125, p. 288. Copy Notes Part I was bought by Soane from James Moyes for £1. 14s. 0d. in January 1815. (Spiers Box,'Purchases through personal friends').

Binding C19th diced russia, gilt thick-thin double-rule borders and spine, small gilt-tooled floral corner ornaments.
