A catalogue of the very valuable, extensive and genuine collection of books, (selected from the stock in trade) of Mr. Thomas Edwards, bookseller, of Halifax, (who is retiring from business) ... which will be sold by auction, by Messrs. The sale of books comprised 1465 lots and took ten days. An auctioneer's note on p. iv draws attention to the high quality of the bindings and the presence in particular of 'various coloured morocco and Etruscan Bindings, some of the latter with matchless and unique Drawings on the leaves, in a style of peculiar excellence and beauty, which for many years has been well known to the public.' Immediately following the books sale there was a separate sale of 'prints, drawings, and pictures'.
Copy Notes Unannotated. Bound (11) in a collection of miscellaneous catalogues. An ALs from W. Ford dated Manchester April 19. 1826., which has been bound with a copy of Edwards's flyer advertising the sale (q.v.), begins Sir, / I take the liberty of sending you Catalogues of the annexed / splendid sale, which you will find well-deserving of your / attention [...]. However, no copy of the catalogue for the sale of the prints, &c. is now present in the library.
Binding C19th black bubble-grained binder's cloth, gilt-lettered spine, numbered '82' in a series of sale catalogue volumes. (Previously numbered '50'.) 22.5 cm.
