[Historical and topographical description of Chelsea. 1810]
An historical and topographical description of Chelsea and its environs; interspersed with biographical anecdotes of illustrious and eminent persons who have resided in Chelsea during the three preceding centuries. By Thomas Faulkner, of Chelsea.
London: printed by J. Tilling, for T. Egerton; Messrs. Sherwood, Neeley, and Jones; and T. Faulkner, 1810.
xviii, 459, [7] p., fold. engr. map, engr. port., [10] pl. : wd.-engr. illus. ; 23.4 cm. (8º)

'J. Soane, Esp., Prof. Architecture in the Royal Academy' was a subscriber to this first edition and the enlarged, two-volume edition of 1829 (q.v.). As well as being the author of topographical works, Faulkner was a bookseller and stationer with a shop near the Chelsea Hospital, and many of his works are often found with extra plates from his stock bound in. BAL, Early printed books, no. 1024.

Copy Notes Imperfect; without the folded map and portrait of James Neild recorded in the BAL copy. A receipt from Thomas Faulkner for 'One Guinea for the Hist. of Chelsea' dated 23 April 1810 probably relates to this purchase. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.3.10, attached to bill from Thomas Boone).

Binding C19th half calf, gilt double-ruled spine, dark green morocco spine-label, marbled-paper boards.
