First published in 1760 and reprinted regularly throughout the rest of the eighteenth century. The 'Supplement' is separately paginated and has a separate sequence of plates. Soane also owned the sixth edition of 1784 (q.v.). ESTC n19867.

Copy Notes Bought from Thomas Boone for 9s. on 9 June 1804. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.1.4). Inscribed in ink on front paste-down Frederick Kañmacher and in pencil B 4.7.; and by Boone in pencil on front free-endpaper fine Copy/ Plates =9s=, with two bookseller's hieroglyphs. Between pp. 144--145 is a loose note on reflecting telescopes 'which Newton improved ... and Mudge perfected'; this may have been prompted by Soane's acquisition of an eight-day marine chronometer made by Thomas Mudge (1717--1794).
