FÊTE PUBLIQUE ...
Fête publique donnée par la ville de Paris a l'occasion du mariage de Monseigneur le Dauphin le 13. Fevrier M.DCC.XLVII.
[Paris, 1747]
Engr. title-pl. (engr. text on verso), engr. frontis., 12 pl. of engr. text (on 6 leaves), [7] double-page pl. ; 62.2 cm. (2°)

This wholly engraved volume commemorates the marriage of the Dauphin Louis (father of Louis XVI) to Maria Josepha of Saxony. According to a credit engraved lower left in the title-plate design, the engravings in the present work were 'Executés sur les desseins de François Blondel Architect du Roy', i.e. Jacques-François Blondel (1705--1774). The engravings in all three works are probably to be attributed to Jean-François Blondel, (1681--1756), Jacques-François's uncle, who was probably also involved in the production of two earlier and similar works, Description des festes données par la ville de Paris, a l'occasion du mariage de Madame Louise-Elisabeth de France ..., 1740 (q.v.), to mark the marriage of Louis XV's eldest daughter to Don Felipe of Spain, and Fêtes publiques ... a l'occasion du mariage de Monseigneur le Dauphin ... to mark the Dauphin Louis's earlier marriage to Maria Theresa of Spain in 1745 (q.v.). The allegorical frontispiece, however, was 'Inventé et Dessiné par Michel-Ange Slodtz' (1705--1764) and engraved by Jean Jacques Flipart. The engraved text is in decorative page-borders designed by Louis-Joseph Le Lorrain (1715--1759) and engraved by Pierre-François Tardieu (1711--1771). Millard I, 27 [part 2]; see also notes to BAL Early printed books, no. 1062.
