Half sheet, folded, conjugate leaf blank. Printed on pink wove paper watermarked: 'H Mills / 1832'. 'To announce these exhibitions of muscular mechanism as the studies made by FLAXMAN for his own use and instruction, is to give them a practical recommendation superior to all critical eulogy. We have here the exemplification of his labours; the secret of his processes; and all that need be urged on the young Student is to follow in the Master's steps.' (p.[2]). The drawings upon which this posthumous work was based are in the Royal Academy's collection, having been inserted in a specially bound copy presented by the publisher to Sir Francis Chantrey, which was subsequently purchased by the Academy for 10 guineas in 1885.
