With a dedication to the Earl of Bute. The Italian original was first published at Venice, 1774. The translation is anonymous. The 'Observations on the island of Cherso and Osero' first published at Venice, 1771. Also includes 'Iter Buda Hadrianopolim Anno MDLIII Exaratum Ab Antonio Verantio ... Nunc primum e Verantiano Carthophylacio in lucem editum', pp. [545]--584. The plates are captioned in Italian with English captions added. The author, born Giovanni Battista Fortis, taught at the University of Padua and this work is based on his travels in Dalmatia, then part of the Venetian republic, between 1771 and 1774. Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting the half-title and 3 plates. Bought from Thomas Boone for 9s. on 16 July 1807. (Spiers Box). Inscribed in pencil by Boone on front free endpaper plates =9s= and in ink in an earlier hand 8/6.
