Fuseli was professor of painting at the Royal Academy from 1799 to 1805, and again from 1810 until his death in 1825. During this time, from 1806 to 1836, Soane was professor of architecture. This is the first edition, containing the first course of Fuseli's lectures only (lectures 1--3), which were reprinted in 1833 (q.v.) as a supplement to the first volume of Arnold's Library of the Fine Arts (q.v.). The title-page vignette was designed, and the tail-piece on p. 151 was engraved by William Blake. BAL, Early printed books, no. 1150.
