Includes a 'New Edition Of The First Letter, Addressed, ... To His Royal Highness The Prince Of Wales', which was first published in a limited edition in 1800. Between 1802 and 1806 John Hayter, an antiquary and chaplain in ordinary to the Prince of Wales, had supervised the unrolling, recording and deciphering of the carbonised manuscripts found in the Villa of the Papyri at Herculaneum. The five numbered plates are hand-coloured etchings by S.J. Neele (1758--1824). Hooked on Books 5.2

Binding C19th half dark brown calf, blind double-rule borders, gilt double-rule spine, marbled-paper boards.
