HISTORY OF THE CITY OF CHESTER ...
History of the city of Chester, from its foundation to the present time; collected from public records, private manuscripts, and other authentic sources. With an account of parochial and other charities, never before published; and a chronological register of important events to the year 1815. Illustrated with five etchings, by G. Cuitt.
Chester printed for T. Poole; and sold by Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, and Brown; and Walker, London, 1815.
[4], iii, [1], 334, ii p., [4] etched pl. : illus. ; 21.0 cm. (8°)

The notice 'To the Reader', apparently written on behalf of the anonymous author ('a professional gentleman of the city'), is signed 'I.M.B.P.' (i.e. I.B.M. Pigott) and dated 'Nicholas-street, March, 1816'. A small etched view of the Rows is printed on the title-page and evidently counts as one of the five unnumbered etchings by George Cuitt (1743--1818) called for in the title.

Copy Notes A view of Thomas Harrison's Chester Castle propylaeum (1811--13) is bound as a frontispiece in this copy. Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper 9s / John Soane / Aug: 1818

Binding Original C19th blue paper boards, printed paper spine-label reading 'History Of Chester'.
