Title and imprint from upper printed grey paper wrapper (included in collation). Published in 18 parts starting in 1826 as a sequel to Hittorff's Architecture antique de la Sicile (q.v.). This copy has two original grey paper wrappers - one for part 1 [to 12], the other for parts 13 to 18 - on which the title is printed with the prospectus and conditions of subscription on the verso. Pasted down on the wrapper for parts 13--18 is a printed advertisement explaining that three additional plates were thought necessary to complete the work and these would be offered free to subscribers with the text as soon as the engraving was done. The advertisement also notes that some copies have pl. 63 misnumbered 59. As finally published the book had an engraved frontispiece and 75 plates accompanied by [12] pages of preliminaries and 64 pages of text, lacking in the Soane copy. Copy Notes Bought by Soane from Dulau & Co., M. Martin Saurin for £4 10s. on 10 January 1833. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.7.35). The first printed wrapper inscribed in ink after 'Livraison. 1, à. 18.'; the second, 13e A 18e.

Binding C19th half calf, roll-tooled borders, marbled-paper boards, red morocco spine-label.
