With a calligraphic dedication by Humboldt and his co-author Aimé-Bonpland to Ennio Quirino Visconti. Forms part 1, section 2 of the Voyage aux régions équatoriales du nouveau continent fait dans les années 1799 à 1804 par A. de Humboldt et A. Bonpland, which in its entirety consists of thirty folio and quarto volumes published between 1805 and 1834, and comprises a number of subordinate works. Plates 8--9 are impressed on a single leaf; pl. 25 is double page. Some of the plates have aquatint shading (of which pl.10, 16, 35 and 51 are printed in bistre), and pl. 12--14, 25--8, 33--4, 36--8, 41--2, 44--8, 52--3, 55--7, 60 and 63 are hand-coloured.

Binding C19th goatskin, blind triple-ruled borders and floral corner ornaments, gilt-tooled dentelles, gilt-lettered spine, gilt edges. 3s. 10d. paid to T. & W. Boone for binding 'Imperial folio. Russia Gilt Leaves' at time of purchase, 30 April 1825. (Spiers Box).
