Musée royal des monumens français, ou mémorial de l'histoire de France et de ses monumens, par Alexandre Lenoir, ... Nouvelle édition.
A Paris chez l'auteur, au Musée, 1816.
180 p. ; 16.0 cm. (12º)

The Musée national des monumens français was set up in 1795 at the convent of the Petits-Augustins under the curatorship of Lenoir. However, the exhibition was strongly opposed by Quatremere de Quincy, who in 1816 was appointed Intendant general des arts et monuments publics by the new Bourbon government, and owing in part to his hostility, the Musée des monumens at the Petits-Augustins and a branch in the gardens of Mousseaux were forced to close in December 1816. Lenoir compiled numerous books on the museum, including 8 volumes of the Musée de monumens français, ou description historique et chronologique ..., 1800--21 (q.v.) and the Histoire des arts en France, 1810 (q.v.).

Binding C19th half mauve calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt double-rule spine, red morocco spine-label.
