Arranged alphabetically and listing many place names, this is the first London guide to include the surrounding country seats. It is thought to have been compiled by Robert Dodsley (1703--1764), publisher, bookseller, poet and dramatist. The number and quality of the plates, drawn by Samuel Wale, make this, in Bernard Adams' words, 'an unsurpassed guide to the appearance of mid-eighteenth century London'. See B.
