Based on the work of the same title (1657, q.v.; 'Parte Seconda', 1669, q.v.) by L. Agostini and G.P. Bellori, and the illustrations of G.B. Galestruzzi, augmented here by additional engravings by E. Vico, and P. Stefano (cf. Preface). The colophon in each volume reads 'In Roma Presso Francesco Gonzaga ... '. The plates consist of a main numbered sequence plus one (vols 1 & 3), two (vol. 2) or five (vol. 4) additional unnumbered plates illustrating separate essays.

Copy Notes Copy 1: Imperfect: wanting the two additional plates in vol. 2 and the first two leaves of the dedication (i.e. leaves a3.4) in vol. 3. Early ownership signature and shelfmark scratched from front-endpapers and pastedowns to each volume; partly legible in vol. IV: Robert C(?)[--](g or y?)[--]. Vol. 1 front pastedown inscribed in ink by Soane 4 Vol. from Market Drayton.
Copy 2: Vols. 1--2 only. Final leaf of vol. 2 (verso blank) used as a pastedown. Loosely inserted at the front of vol. 1 is a single leaf C18th MS. 'Note des Tetes et bustes, dont les moules se trouvent à Mannheim dans la collection des Antiques de Son Altesse Serenissime Electorale Palatine', comprising a list of subjects numbered 52--86, and on the verso 'Note de quelques figures, qu'on a fait surmouler' with a continuation of the list of subjects numbered 87-93. The verso also bears a smudged ink inscription at the foot, written upside down Sir Josh[--?].

Binding Copy 1: C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-rule borders, gilt-tooled spines, red leather spine-labels.
Copy 2: C18th half sheep, marbled-paper boards, MS. short title paper spine labels, wrongly dating both volumes 1708.
