First published Paris 1671--72. With a dedication to Louis XIV and a portrait of him engraved by P. Giffart 1683. The engraved titles and the letterpress title-page of volumes II and III are dated 1684, the date of the privilege. Volume I register: a8 e4 i1 A--N8 O16(-6) P--Z8. Volume I pagination is irregular; with 155 full page engraved illustrations numbered I--CLII with bis plates XCIII--XCV (corresponding to the pp. 222.a--222.m sequence, fol. O8--14). Volume II has 122 full-page engraved illustrations, irregularly numbered with a duplicate sequence XXI--XXX which includes a bis plate XXII.

Copy Notes Imperfect; wanting volume III. This copy has a duplicate page 1--2 in volume I and several plates in volume II have been hand-coloured. Volume I inscribed in ink on front paste-down endpaper Thomas Carter / Decr. 10 1778 and initialled EH. Volume II inscribed in ink on front paste-down endpaper with 28 lines, being 5 verses and the chorus of a British military song beginning Come all you venal Slaves of war, and the initials EH; on rear paste-down and free-endpaper practice lettering les travaux de Mars and England.

Binding C17th sheep, gilt-tooled spines.
