First and only English edition of Mauclerc's Traitté de l'architecture suivant Vitruve, 1648, itself an enlarged and revised edition of Le premier livre d'architecture, 1600. Plates numbered I--VI, I--VI, I--XI, I--VII, [I], I--V, [VI--VII]. The Soane copy is similar to the BAL copy in containing a second state of pl. VII in the third section relating to the Ionic Order, the new note advertising Robert Pricke's 'Perspective Practical' inserted below the caption in the final unnumbered plate, and the title-page imprint giving the bookseller's address as 'White-Cross-Street, near Cripple-gate'. Copy Notes Purchased at Christie's sale, 23 March 1813 (q.v.) for £1 8s. in lot 110, with copies of 'Leoni's Palladio 2 v. in 1' (q.v.), 'Serly's Architecture' (q.v.), and 'Leeke's Vignola' (q.v.).. Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper John Soane R.A. Page numbers added in ink to letterpress and plates on rectos only.

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, blind roll-tooled panels, gilt double-rule borders and spine, red morocco spine-label.
