A translation of Milizia's work originally published anonymously in Italian in 1768 (q.v.). With a dedication 'To Sir John Soane, Esq. F.R.S. F.S.A.' BAL, Early printed books, no. 2131.

Copy Notes Inserted in volume I are two letters: one from the architect, Edward Cresy (1792--1858) sent to Soane at Bath on 1 Nov. 1825 requesting permission for his wife to dedicate her translation of Milizia's Vite to him, the other from Mrs. [Eliza] Cresy dated 23 Feb. 1826 presenting Soane with a copy of the book and thanking him for accepting the dedication.

Binding C19th mauve red calf, gilt and blind triple-fillet borders and spine compartments, green morocco spine-labels, direct-lettered in gilt at foot of spine 'Lond. 1826', marbled edges. Bound by Hood & McCullock for 5s. per volume on 22 March 1826. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.6.6).
