First published in 1798 (q.v.). The frontispieces, drawn by James Cave and engraved by James Basire III, are new to this edition and compare the altar end of Winchester Cathedral as 'Restored' under Milner's supervision by John Carter, with that of Salisbury Cathedral as 'Modernized' by James Wyatt. The verso of the half-title advertises other works by Milner.

Copy Notes Soane bought one edition of the book from Josiah Taylor for 11s. 6d. on 10 May 1811 (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.2.12) and the other at Christie's on 17 February 1815, lot 56 (see marked-up sale catalogue in Christie's archive).

Binding C19th grey paper boards, paper spine-label lettered in ink 'Milner's, Dissertation'. Endpapers watermarked 'J Whatman/ 1818' and '1819'.
