The last major undertaking of Bernard de Montfaucon, better remembered for L'antiquitée expliquée, 15 vols, Paris 1719-1724 (q.v.), is an historical survey of representations of French monarchs and their regalia from the Merovingians to Henry IV Bourbon and significant events from their reigns. Title-pages printed in red and black.

Copy Notes Bought from J. Taylor for £20 on 18 February 1809. (Priv. Corr. XVI.E.2.2). Volume I contains a duplicate pl. XXIX.

Binding C18th sprinkled calf, blind double-ruled borders, gilt-tooled spines, red morocco spine-labels, green silk bookmarks.
