The plates were engraved by various hands after drawings made by Giovanni Elia Morghen of the wall paintings by or after Giovanni da San Giovanni in the Pitti palace (pl. I--XII); Baldassare Franceschini detto il Volterrano in the Imperial Villa at Petraia (pl. 1--10); and Andrea del Sarto at Poggio a Caiano, as completed by Alessandro Allori and Franciabigio (pl. 1--4). The title-plate and frontispiece were designed and drawn by Giuseppe Zocchi, to whom the work is occasionally misascribed. There was another edition in 1766. With the single letterpress leaf of 'Avvertimenti' which is sometimes lacking.

Copy Notes Bought at the Adam Sale, May 1818 (q.v.), lot 104, for £2 12s. 6d. (Bolton Appendix, p. 331; and Priv. Corr. XVI.E.3.12). In this copy pl. 7--10 of Petraia are bound after pl. 1--4 of Poggio a Caiano, pl. 9 being misbound before pl. 7 and 8. Bound (1) with Giuseppe Zocchi, Scelta di XXIV vedute ... della città di Firenze, 1754 (q.v.).

Binding C18th half vellum, later red morocco label lettered 'Zocchi &c.'.
