Parts 1--5 only of the second issue, with parts 1--3 in French and parts 4 and 5 in English. Title taken from the wrapper to part I. First published in parts between 1805 and 1810; see R. V. Tooley, English books with coloured plates 1790 to 1860 (London 1954), no. 342, pp. 277--8. The wrapper titles for this issue state that the work was intended to be published in 12 parts, 4 a year, each containing 4 plates and several leaves of text. Evidently only 10 parts were published before Nattes's death in 1822.

Copy Notes On 12 April 1820 Nattes sent Soane a receipt for 5 guineas for the 5 numbers with a covering note stating: 'the Nos of the French Work out - the whole will shortly be published as soon as they are Mr Soane's shall be sent.' (Archive 16/12/43). Inscribed in ink on wrapper Imperfect before 1837/ G. B.

Binding Later mid-C19th half red calf, blind roll-tooled borders, thick-thin gilt-rule spine, black morocco spine-label, binder's red morocco-grain cloth.
