First published in 1638 with 25 plates only and without the work on optics by Mersenne, which was first added together with 25 further plates to the second expanded edition of 1652 (q.v.). This third edition of Niceron's Perspective is in fact a reissue of the second edition with a cancel title-page. The added work by Mersenne has separate pagination and register and a special title-page and imprint dated 1651 as described in the notes to the 1652 edition. Millard I, 124.

Copy Notes Bought at the sale of the late architect and antiquary James Cavanah Murphy (1716--1814) for £1 1s. on 18 December 1814 with other books and prints to the value of £27, paid by draft dated 19 December. (Spiers Box, Miscellaneous booksellers). Perspective diagrams drawn in pencil on front free endpaper and rear paste-down.

Binding C17th calf, blind double-ruled borders and spine, maroon spine-label.
