The first edition of Abbé Banier's edition of Ovid's Metamorphoses with parallel Latin text and French translation, and commentary in French. Some illustrations in vol. II printed as six plates on three leaves, but counted within pagination sequence as pp. [265--270]. Title-pages printed in red and black with engraved vignette.
Copy Notes Bound in one volume. First front free-endpaper inscribed in pencil 10-10..0. Verso of title-page to tome I inscribed in pencil 248 80.
Binding C19th red morocco, gilt triple-rule borders, gilt-tooled spine with floral and star motifs, gilt roll-tooled turn-ins, gilt edges. Two volumes bound as one.
