Palladio, Andrea (1508--1580). Fabbriche antiche'
[Fabbriche antiche. Bertotti Scamozzi. French and Italian. 1785]
32, 35, [1] p., add. engr. title-pl., XXV pl. (17 double-page); 48.8 cm. (2º)

Published simultaneously in Italian and French editions, which were apparently issued together as here or available separately, with the French text having a separate title-page reading Les thermes des Romains dessinés par André Palladio et publiées de nouveau avec quelques observations par Octave Bertotti Scamozzi. A separate copy of the French edition is also in the Soane Museum (q.v.). The plates, drawn by Carlo Barrera and engraved by Gaetano Testolini, were copied from Burlington's edition (dated 1730, not 1732 as stated in the title here, but in fact probably not issued until around 1735, q.v.) with some measurements added and an additional plate of the plan of the baths of Agrippa not in Burlington's edition. The work is often erroneously considered as a continuation of Bertotti Scamozzi's edition of Le fabbriche e i disegni di Andrea Palladio, 1776--1783 (q.v.), likewise published simultaneously in French and Italian editions. See BAL, Early printed books, no. 2380 (French only); C.I.S.A. Andrea Palladio, La raccolta palladiana Guglielmo Cappelletti del Centro Internazionale di Studi di Architettura Andrea Palladio di Vicenza (Vicenza 2001), no. 29 (Italian only); Fowler 234 (French and Italian).

Copy Notes Purchased at Christie's Revett sale, 26--27 June, 1804 (q.v.) for £2 10s., lot 79 on the second day.
