This is the last Italian edition to use the original woodcuts in the text (by now worn) and the first with an etched title-page which was redrawn to incorporate a dedication to the Vidmani [i.e. Weidmann] brothers and their family coat of arms. The final leaf, a blank, is excised in many copies, as here. There are numerous errors in pagination throughout. See BAL, Early printed books, no. 2387.

Bought at the sale of the late architect and antiquary James Cavanah Murphy (1716--1814) for £1 12s. on 18 December 1814 with other books and prints to the value of £27, paid by draft dated 19 December. (Spiers Box, Miscellaneous booksellers). A scribble in ink at the foot of book I p. 1 may obscure an inscription.
