London: printed for the author, by Nichols, Son, and Bentley, 1814.
vii, [1], 87, [1] p., 6 engr. pl. ; 27.5 cm. (4°)

With a dedication to George Dance under whom Peacock worked as assistant Clerk of the Works to the City of London. The final gathering is proof corrected in ink, suggesting that the author's death on 22 February 1814 may have preceded publication of the book. In contrast to his symmetrical plans for small villas published in Oikidia, 1785 (q.v.), the ideas on town planning that he presents here, which are influenced by Dance's Minories development, incorporate the Picturesque and look forward to the garden city movement.

Binding C19th calf, gilt double-rule borders gilt triple-rule and blind roll-tooled spine, red morocco spine-labels.

Reference Number 2984
