[Of London. 1790]
Of London.
London (Place), printed for Robt. Faulder,, 1790.

The title is engraved. 'Advertisement' is signed 'Thomas Pennant, Downing, March 1, 1790'. This work is described by Bernard Adams (London illustrated 1604--1851, p. 156) as a "landmark in the history of London illustration" which attracted to itself large quantities of old prints, engravings and watercolours, as in the case of Soane's six volume copy of the 1805 edition grangerized by Henry Fauntleroy (q.v.), and helped to generate several new publications, like J. T. Smith's Antiquities of London, 1791 [-1800] (q.v.), that were intended, in part at least, to satisfy the demands of pennantizers. See Bernard Adams, London illustrated (London 1983), no. 67, pp. 156--160. See also notes to BAL, Early printed books, no. 2474 (describing the 2nd ed., 1791). ESTC t113417.
