Each discourse has a separate title-page, both with the imprint of the first edition: 'London: Printed for W. Churchill at the Black Swan in Pater-Noster-Row, 1719'. Pagination and register also separate. With [2] pages of the publisher's list at end. ESTC n22288.

Copy Notes Copy 1: Bought from Thomas Boone on 21 June 1815 (paid 10 July) for 4s. (Spiers Box). With Boone's price and codes in pencil on front free-endpaper.
Copy 2
: 18.7 cm. Imperfect; wanting the separate title-page to the 'Essay On ... Criticism' and the final publisher's list. Title-page inscribed in ink 154 on either side of the author's name and possibly sharing its provenance with the uniformly bound set of Richardson's Essay on the theory of painting, 1715 (q.v.) and his Account of the stautes, bas-reliefs, drawings, and pictures, 1754 (q.v.), which have the title-pages similarly inscribed.

Binding Copy 1: C18th Cambridge-style calf, blind tooled panels, gilt double-rule borders and spine. The spine with red morocco label 'Richardson/ On/ Painting' and the letter J direct-lettered in gilt.
Copy 2: C18th sprinkled calf, gilt double-rule borders and spine. The spine with fragmentary remains of a red morocco label and the letter J direct-lettered in gilt.
