A separate edition with special title-page and Advertisement of the first volume of Todd's second edition of the Poetical works of John Milton, and first published as the vol. I of the original edition in 1801 (q.v.). The present edition is augmented by the extensive index, no doubt prompting the separate issue for sale to owners of the first edition. The portrait is drawn by T. Simpson and engraved by J. Collyer.

Copy Notes Bound as vol. VII of the first edition of a set of Todd's Poetical works of John Milton, 1801 (q.v.) formerly belonging to the actor John Philip Kemble, but using different tools and lacking Kemble's armorial stamp on the covers. The present volume may have been added to the set by Kemble or by an intermediate owner.

Binding Early C19th blue straight-grained morocco, outer gilt roll-tool border of hexagonal plaques with small floral ornaments within gilt French fillet, blind triple-ruled within thin gilt fillet inner border with foliate corners, gilt and blind-tooled spines, gilt lettering, green endpapers, gilt edges.
