First published in 1759. Plates I--V, [4] show hands, torsos, skeletons; pl. X--XII show classical figures. Plates VI--IX in this copy are before numbers. There follow 45 numbered plates each containing two heads after Raphael and preceded by an unnumbered outline etching of the same image. ESTC n36284.

Copy Notes Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper John Soane/ L. I. Fields. Plates VI--VII (of skeletons, before numbers) bound in inverted order. The Soane copy additionally contains forty-six extraneous leaves of plates of artistic subjects, landscapes, seascapes, wild and domestic animals, birds, flowers. Seventeen of these bear the publication line of John Boydell with dates between 1766 and 1775; seven others appear closely related to these, suggesting that the entire volume was put together from Boydell's stock at the time of purchase. These include four proof(?) etchings by R. Earlom after Claude le Lorrain numbered 103--106 dated 1 September 1775 followed by the same etchings re-lettered and shaded in sepia aquatint. Among the plates without Boydell's publication line are four etchings of nude figures captioned 'Académie dessinée et Gravée par B. Picart' numbered 60, 66, 62 and 63, bound between the two sequences of plates in the Ralph volume as published.
