Soane also owned the 1783 edition (q.v.). The author is identified at the foot of the dedication of a variant copy at the Bodleian as James Ralph, who was not an architect but rather a miscellaneous writer. ESTC t56391; Harris and Savage, no. 727.

Copy Notes Copy 1: Imperfect; wanting the half-title. Inscribed in ink on title-page By ___ *Ralph, architect./* and *see Edition 1783 --. Bound (2) with W. Halfpenny, Six new designs for convenient farm-houses, 1751 (q.v.).
Copy 2: 19.2 cm. Imperfect; wanting the half-title. Inscribed in ink on verso of title-page written by Ralph/ the Architect. With numerous passages noted in pencil in the margins, not in Soane's hand. Bound (2) with Brook Taylor, New principles of linear perspective, 1719 (q.v.).

Binding Copy 1: C18th half calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt-ruled spine, red spine-label lettered 'Architect.', later numbered '39' in a series of pamphlet volumes.
Copy 2: C18th quarter calf, marbled-paper boards, gilt-ruled spine, red morocco spine-labels.
