Constructed between 1754 and 1762 Régemortes's bridge over the River d'Allier at Moulins was the fourth on the site within the space of fifty years and replaced Hardouin Mansart's three-arch structure which had been swept away by flood in 1710. The new bridge was composed of thirteen elliptical arches, each with a 19.5 metre span. '... it is considered one of the most beautiful bridges in France. Since its appearance the present work has been recognized for its great utility to engineers charged with the construction of other similar bridges [...] Various new and novel machines were used in the construction of the bridge.' - V.L. Roberts and I. Trent, Bibliotheca mechanica New York, 1991, 275.
