Edited (and largely written) by John Landseer (1769--1852). A copy of the fourth number only of vol. I. Includes 'original communications' by Thomas Hope on 'Grecian And Gothic Architecture' and 'The Structure Of English Theatres', as well as a devastating assault on John Britton's character and reputation in a review of the first volume of the Architectural antiquities of Great Britain, 1807 (q.v.), e.g., 'the snake presses the ground with his belly that he may raise his crest ...'.
Copy Notes With the original printed blue paper wrappers retained, titled as above within decorative borders, the upper inscribed in ink Recd. Decr. 2d. 1808. With Samuel Tipper's separately printed 2-pp. Prospectus of a new review (q.v., edited by Richard Cumberland) bound in at the front.
Binding Bound in a numbered series of late 19th century half calf pamphlet volumes. (Archive, Trustees' Minutes 18 June 1866). With binder's stamp 'Bound By Mansell' on front pastedown.
