John Gage Rokewode (also known as John Gage), a barrister at Lincoln's Inn, was director of the Society of Antiquaries from 1829.

Copy Notes Pasted down on verso of pl. of Hengrave Hall a subscription receipt London Augt 4th 1822 Sir William Mark Sykes Bart/To James Carpenter/ 14 Old Bond St./ Subscription to Gage's History/ of Hengrave Large paper £7-7. Soane's spade-shield bookplate has been laid down on the receipt, and his die-sinker bookplate is on the front pastedown.

Binding Later(?) C19th half maroon morocco, blind-tooled borders, gilt-tooled spine, maroon cloth boards, marbled fore-edges.
