Though dated 1755 this edition was published at the end of 1754. An English translation appeared in October 1755 (ESTC t55726). Rouquet was a friend and disciple of Hogarth's, who is believed to have collaborated with him on this work as he did on Lettres de M. ***, London, 1746. See R. Paulson, Hogarth: His Life, Art, and Times (1971), II, pp. 211--14.
