First published in 1748. Volume II bears no edition statement. The letters in volume II, also concerned with antiquities, were written in Rome between 1747 and 1749. ESTC t67233.

Copy Notes Large paper copy. With pp. 281-4 of the Appendix to vol. I misbound between pp. vi and vii of the Preface. A copy, this or the copy of the 1748 edition (q.v.), was bought from T. Boone for 1s. 6d. on 15 May 1804. (Archive 7/13/5).

Binding C18th calf, gilt double-rule borders, gilt-tooled spine, red and green spine-labels reading 'Painter's/ Letters'.
