Saint-Non's name appears on the dedication and the name of the printer, Clousier, is given in vol. I, p. xiii. The numbering of the volumes is irregular. Volume I is in two parts dated 1781 and 1782; vol. III containing the description of Magna Grecia is dated 1783; volume IV, containing the description of Sicily, is in two parts dated 1785 and 1786. The preface to vol. IV part 2 gives an account of the work in which Saint-Non is credited with writing the journal of the voyage, being the guide, and presiding over the work of the artists in Calabria and Sicily. Some of the leaves of plates bear the impressions of two coppers. Those in vol. I are irregularly numbered; the plates in vol. III are numbered 1--100 and those in the two parts of vol. IV, [1]--140.
