Originally published in 1685. With parallel text and added title-page in French, an added engraved title-plate in Italian, and an engraved portrait of the translator and illustrator, Antonio Bulifon. The author was Bishop of Bisceglie and a humanist whose varied productions included works of theology, history, dialect poetry, and very popular guide books to Naples and Pozzuoli which went through many editions in the eighteenth century. Soane owned three other editions of the Pozzuoli Guida de' Forestrieri (q.v.). For more on the background to this work see BAL Early printed books 1478-1840, no. 2902.
Copy Notes In this copy the added engraved title-plate is bound after the first page of the French text which is printed on the verso of the added French title-page. The front free-endpaper has the top right corner excised as if to remove a bookseller's price.
Binding C18th sprinkled calf, gilt-tooled spine, red morocco spine-label.
