Parallel titles and text in Italian and Latin. Book 1 was first published in Venice in 1537, book 3 in Paris, 1540, books 1--2 in Paris, 1545, book 5 in 1547, the 'extra' book 6 in Lyon, 1551, and book 7 in Frankfurt, 1575; the first collected edition (books 1--5) was issued in Venice in 1551 (reprinted in parts between 1558(?) and 1562, q.v.). Book 6, the 'Libro Estraordinario', contains 11 engraved plates of rustic portals which are reverse copies from the original Lyon edition of 1551, as well as a title-plate leaf 3F2 with the central title area masked and the imprint of 'Matthæum Bolzettam de Cadorinis Patuii MDCXLIIX', and a final plate of 'Quadrato Geometrico il qual serue per il libro da misurar con la uista di ... Silvo Belli Vice[n]tino' from Belli's Libro del misurar, published by Giorgano Ziletti, Venice, 1570. Pagination irregular. With two unnumbered leaves tipped in: one between pp. 244-245 containing a correction to the illustration on p. 245; the other between pp. 332-3 with a woodcut of a plan to be placed on p. 332. Copy Notes Inscribed by Soane with pencil notes identifying buildings; the plan of the Tempio della Pace (p.103) with measurements and a note, nine niches, added in ink. A folded sheet (watermark J. Larking/ 1803) of pencil sketches of plans, interiors, cornices etc. based on Serlio's illustrations loosely inserted between pages 110--111.
