House contents sale catalogue. John Smith, Whig M.P., was associated with I.L. Goldsmid and Benjamin Shaw in the purchase of buildings in Gower Street in 1825 for the founding of University College, London. Repton had landscaped Blendon Hall for Smith in 1815--16 (See D. Stroud, Humphrey Repton (1962), p. 166.)
